TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi and UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the Vienna-based UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Antonio Mario Costa on Saturday held talks on cooperation in the international campaign against drug trafficking.
Kharrazi welcomed expansion of cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the UN specialized agency in the campaign against crime and drug trafficking.
"Our heavy responsibility is not only fighting drug, but also the organized crime and the social disorder," Kharrazi said.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran has launched an extensive campaign against drug trafficking and suffered heavy losses for that cause due to its neighborhood with Afghanistan," he said.
A serious campaign against drugs requires the international community's resolve in this respect, Kharrazi said.
Mario Costa appreciated Iran's relentless fight against drug trafficking and said that the UNODC is keen on using Iran's experience in this respect.
